The University-Wide module: “Global Sustainable Development: Interdisciplinary Perspectives”, will be offered in Semester 2, from 1 Feb through 19th April 2021, with sessions delivered ONLINE on Mondays from 5.30-7.30pm. The theme of the module is “Understanding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from a Global and Interdisciplinary Development Perspective”.

The module is open to UG/PG students, all UCC staff and the general public. It is available for additional credit (5 Credits) or recognition through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) certification (for a small fee and fee waiver available to unemployed or unwaged) indicating that you have completed the course and associated coursework, validated by UCC. For those taking it for 5 credits, assessment is required. For those taking it for CPD, no assessment is required.

The objective of the module is to facilitate the development of critical thinking on (1) Theories around Human and Global Sustainable Development (2) Education as a humanitarian response in developing contexts; (3) Global public health and Well-Being; and (4) Interdisciplinary perspectives on human security (migration, food, health), global human rights; business, economy, society and the environment.

This module is coordinated by Dr Rosarii Griffin (OVPLT/ACE) and Dr Claire Dorrity (School of Applied Social Studies) and will be delivered in 10 x 2 hr. sessions by staff from the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Science (CACSSS); College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS); College of Medicine and Health; College of Business (CUBS) and The College of Law.

This 5-credit module will be available to undergraduates and postgraduate students undertaking programmes of study at UCC, outside the 60-credit yearly workload. (Some programmes may allow this module as an elective module on their programme, but this is subject to Programme Director approval.) Students wishing to select this module should ensure that there is no conflict with the timetable for their main programme of study. The module is available to international students as an elective module as part of their study programme. The module is open to ALL staff, and members of the general for CPD credits. The module is free to UCC students and staff. However, there is a charge of €150 for members of the general public. A fee waiver is available in some circumstances. For instance, fees will not be charged to those who are unemployed or on a social welfare payment. Places are limited and registration is required. Registration closes on the 29th January 2020 at 12 p.m. sharp. Please register immediately to avoid disappointment as places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
